Samsung Unveils Generative AI Gauss
Samsung recently revealed its proprietary generative AI model, named Samsung Gauss, during the Samsung AI Forum 2023. This development comes at a time when numerous tech giants are actively engaging in enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities.
These AI tools have been designed to perform various tasks, including writing, drawing, and adding visual effects. Furthermore, it’s becoming increasingly common for companies to develop their own generative AI models.
Samsung, aiming to keep pace with these advancements, has launched Samsung Gauss, showcasing its commitment to innovating within the AI space. Currently, Samsung Gauss is exclusively available to Samsung employees.
Named after “The Prince of Mathematicians,” Gauss can do almost anything.
The naming of Samsung’s AI tool, Samsung Gauss, pays homage to the German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, whose groundbreaking work laid the foundation for mathematical statistics. Gauss’s contributions to normal distribution, derivatives, integrals, and other areas have been pivotal in developing methods used in AI tools today.
Currently exclusive to Samsung employees, there are plans to make Samsung Gauss accessible to a broader audience in the future.
Samsung Gauss is designed as a foundational structure rather than being specialized in any single domain. It will encompass various models tailored to different functions, such as the Samsung Gauss Language Model, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.
The language model will facilitate answering questions, the Code model will assist with programming tasks, and the Image function will enable users to create and edit images based on textual descriptions. This multifaceted approach allows Samsung Gauss to cater to a wide range of applications, from language processing and coding to image generation and editing.
The upcoming flagship series from the South Korean company, the Galaxy S24, is anticipated to bring these innovative AI products to a broader audience. It is planned that AI applications, presumably including features powered by Samsung Gauss, will be integrated across all models in the series.
This strategic integration of AI into the Galaxy S24 series is aimed at enhancing user experience with advanced functionalities while also prioritizing data privacy. By embedding AI applications directly into their devices, Samsung is taking a step towards ensuring that user interactions with AI are secure and privacy-compliant, reflecting the company’s commitment to respecting user data privacy.
